Visa requirements / information

Do I need a visa for Germany?

Depending on your nationality, you may be obliged to obtain a visa prior to entering the Schengen Area, that Germany is part of.

Not all foreign nationals must have a visa when travelling to Germany. The following countries belong to the Schengen area: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Citizens of these countries do not need any visa, only a normal identity card/pass.

Citizens from countries other than the countries of the Schengen area should contact the appropriate German diplomatic mission to enquire whether they need a visa. Alternatively, you may check the following table in the link below provided by the German Foreign Federal Office to find out whether or not you require a visa. Download.
